Its budget, which amounts to over EUR 40 million, comes essentially form the government of France and, to a lesser extent, from Canada-Quebec, Belgium’s French Community, Switzerland and Cameroon.

ounded in 2002, the International Alliance of Independent Publishers is a non-profit association which coordinates an international network comprising 85 publishing houses and groups of publishers from 45 countries. The Alliance organizes international meeting and carries out advocacy work to foster independence. It also backs international publishing projects — in the form of assistance with translation or co-publishing. Finally, the Alliance contributes to the promotion and diffusion of productions from the South to the North and modestly tries to invert one-way trade flows. The Alliance thus contributes to enhancing the accessibility of works and ideas, to defending and promoting bibliodiversity. The Alliance has set up 5 linguistic networks. Official communication documents – including this very website – are published in the Alliance’s three working languages: French, Spanish and English. This limitation doesn’t convey any political judgment; it merely responds to necessary budget realism, given translation costs. We hope our Portuguese-speaking, Arabic-speaking, Persian-speaking interlocutors – and those of so many other languages! – will forgive us.

The Alliance for Rebuilding Governance in Africa (ARGA) is made up of African and non-African actors who believe that peace and development on the African continent cannot be achieved through simple reforms of the way in which public affairs are regulated, but are contingent on an in-depth re-examination of the foundations of power and governance. The Alliance for Rebuilding Governance in Africa contributes to the development of an African way of thinking and an African governance project.

In a world where countries and regions must cooperate to address urgent problems – climate change, conflict, food security, health and education – we help countries in Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP) build effective partnerships that will tackle these and other development challenges.Economic and political North-South relations are usually biased towards the most powerful. We therefore want to reduce the ‘asymmetries’ in policy making between the EU and ACP countries. By making the EU-ACP partnership more balanced and effective we stimulate developing countries to unleash their full potential. We provide support to key development processes in developing regions and countries in a long term perspective. By doing so we assist the ACP in strengthening their institutions and capacities to develop policies and strategies that shape their own futures and provide pathways out of poverty.
